Introduction
Hello, my name is Sara Roberts. I know how important it is to see your students make progress. As a parent of three and having over ten years of teaching experience, I have seen first hand the frustrations as well as the success of hundreds of students. I am delighted to see the progress students can make, given the proper tools and instruction. I am confident that I can offer your child the framework they need to become more successful in their learning process.
Credentials
I earned my B.A. in Elementary Education from Concordia University in St. Paul, MN in 1997. I have earned licenses in MN, CA, AZ and hold a current NC teaching license.
Experience
I have run my own tutoring business for 11 years. While tutoring I have been able to work with children who are gifted, challenging them to excel beyond their grade levels and work on special projects like writing, editing and illustrating their own hardcover storybooks. On the other end of the spectrum, I have also worked with students diagnosed with seizure disorders, processing disorders, ADD, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Tourettes and PANDAS. This has increased my knowledge of disabilities and modification of instruction to meet their needs. This one on one experience has given me the opportunity to see how parents feel about school from a different perspective and helped me hone my problem solving skills for students in tough situations.
In addition to tutoring, I have taught full time in the classroom as a fifth grade teacher in private schools and as a middle school study skills instructor in the public schools. I have substituted K-12, taught at a Korean Academy and worked for SCORE! (similar to Sylvan). I currently teach kids 3 years old through middle school ages and offer preschool skills, phonics, reading comprehension, writing, basic math and study skills.
